Online or blended courses help bridge learning gaps for students by offering what traditional schools can not. Smaller-in-size schools may not have enough money to pay for a Spanish teacher, but local or distant colleges may. The online school's offer students a chance to get a head start into their college education by offering credit hours to high schooler's. When offered a choice of courses in blended or online learning environments, the characteristics of those ultimately chosen may be many different things. It may be the major the student is majoring in, while it also may be to take their general education courses so that in college the student may focus on their major classes.

Another characteristic can be that of money. Dual Credit classes are cheaper than college classes. Some college's online class may be more expensive than others. Time is also another characteristic. Many high schoolers have busy schedules, so the ability to have weeks at a time or the ability to work at their own pace at home or at school, is an important reason as to why online or blended courses are chosen by students.

My experience learning in a traditional and the time I spent learning in a blended or online classroom or school have been different in many ways. While some of my online classes have been taken through ITV, most have been online. In traditional classrooms, I was able to only learn from a single teacher and textbook. Online, I learn from the teacher, the textbook, multiple online websites, and my fellow peers that are taking that class as well.

Discussion boards are common with my online classes. This allows me to listen to other points and ideas from students. The teacher can allows teach me a different view than my teachers in high school. Traditional teachers give more homework and very little time to do it. With online classes, I am given long periods of time to finish my homework. Which is helpful given my busy schedule. I am able to work at my own pace. While having a teacher in a classroom is more hands on, the professors of my online classes are still willing to help me any ways possible. We can just only communicate with technology. Online classes are useful for a high school student and are great for a future college freshman.
