Comp-U-Dopt

Comp-U-Dopt’s mission is to provide technology access and education for underserved youth. Our programs serve to eliminate the digital divide and support the bright futures of youth in our communities. Our programs serve to eliminate limited access to computers, facilitate growth in technical and digital literacy skills and support the future of youth in our communities.

Comp-U-Dopt was founded in 2007 by Jonathan Osha, with the belief that every child deserves equal access to education and opportunity. He realized that the life cycle of a computer in a corporate environment is typically less than three years. Usually sent to landfill or shelved, these lightly used tools can become a dream come true for a young learner ready to broaden their skills and knowledge, as well as an opportunity to demonstrate good environmental stewardship by our partner organizations. Nationwide, we have distributed over 37,000 computers to deserving youth in underserved communities, and kept 331 tons of equipment out of landfills through our programs and recycling partners.

In 2015 Comp-U-Dopt launched our after-school enrichment and workforce development programs. These high quality, hands-on, project-based programs align with high demand careers and equip students with the skills needed for jobs today and tomorrow. Since their inception, Comp-U-Dopt has administered over 107,000 hours of after school enrichment and workforce development training to young people.

In 2020, Comp-U-Dopt leadership realized early that the pandemic would affect youth in underserved communities across the country who lacked access to a computer in their home.  As a result, the computer drive-thru model was created allowing delivery of this essential tool to students who were unable to participate in distance learning. We now have operations in Atlanta, Chicago, Corpus Christi, Covington, Dallas, Ft Worth, Galveston, Houston, Lake Charles, Los Angeles, Midland, New Orleans, and Washington D.C.
