I started online learning with apprehension and doubt. I knew I wanted something with more structure and social learning experiences than what I was encountering in homeschooling. Much to my surprise, online learning has proven itself to be the perfect preparation for college.

Blended and online learning allows students access to all the benefits of qualified teachers, along with excellent curriculum, but in the context of the individual student’s disposition. Online courses provide students with choices that traditional classrooms, by their nature, are not able to accommodate. Such as, students learning at their own pace, in their own style, and in an environment, that is the most conducive to a positive and beneficial learning experience for them. Students, if needed, can catch up when they fall behind a grade level, or work above their grade level, without feeling self-conscious.

Personally, transitioning from homeschooling to an online school environment enabled me to choose the specific courses I needed to meet high school graduation requirements. Additionally, I took courses that related to the field of study I am now pursuing in college as a full-time PSEO student.

Lastly, I have found learning in an online setting to be much less distracting and considerably more efficient. I can concentrate better and spend uninterrupted time on one subject, only needing to switch to another assignment or lesson when I have completed my current work. Schedule and curriculum flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of online schooling. I can freely ask a teacher a question without concern of judgment from fellow classmates, making it comfortable to get the extra help I may need to do my best.

I am very grateful for this opportunity of online learning. It made it possible for me to catch up in areas I had fallen behind in and readied me for a successful college experience.
